Military or police?

The militarization of US domestic police is evident in recruitment advertising and beyond. Through government grants, police are receiving military equipment that is fit for wartime combat, to use in civilian domestic communities. Civil law and civil rights are evidently suspended, and a form of military justice by police, or what some call a police state is the new norm.

In an article titled, “Community Police Armed with the Weapons and Tactics of War,” ACLU explains:

Billions of dollars’ worth of military weapons and equipment is available to local police departments through grant programs administered by federal agencies such as the Departments of Defense, Justice, and Homeland Security. Until now, this has gone on with very little public oversight. Too little has been known about how much military equipment law enforcement agencies have, why they have it, and how they are using it.

Consider the recent case: “23 Police Officers Fire 377 Bullets at Two Men With Zero Guns

Bullets were sprayed everywhere. They hit the Volvo, other cars in the lot, fence posts and neighboring businesses. They blasted holes in a townhouse where a 12-year-old dove to the ground for cover and a four month old slept in his crib.

Was the use of 377 bullets that endangered other people and children, to kill two unarmed individuals who were trying to surrender not a clear example of overpolicing gone buck wild insane?

Look at these police department recruitment videos and tell us what you think. Do they send a message that over-aggressive policing is not only necessary but also heroic and glamorous? There are many recruitment videos like the ones in this post. How about APD- Albuquerque, they’ve been in the news lately, right?

Here is a police department commercial, from Hobbs, New Mexcico PD:

How about this one. Police, or military?

It really is telling, especially now that police brutality and police state incidents are coming out. It’s supposed to be civilian, but it looks more like war stuff.

This is ramped up from the billboards I saw in NM around 2000. They were clearly military in pov. It was scary then and it’s worse now as we see the result of that recruiting.

The police state mentality is a mental illness, and it can be treated.

    More Orwell double speak:

Protect and Serve = Harass and Intimidate

When I was a child, the late 1960s and early 1970s tried to put police under the review of citizens review boards. And that, might I add, is the concept of checks and balances championed by our founding father’s, put into practice.

Sadly, the so-called liberal or leftist Hollywood went on a spree of cops know better than us BS such Hardcastle and McCormick to convince the masses that they need to be safe by putting full faith and trust in law and order.

So know we are faced with this quote from Lord Acton:

“Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Great men are almost always bad men.”

And Hollywood has taken authoritarian, military and cop worship to a fanatical level.

Would a movie like Serpico even made in the land of sheep and home of the knave?

OOOooooo, don’t even get me started on police issues. Some of this stuff ends up more like thug recruitment in practice. What a looking-glass world we live in!

The images are very clearly “us against the enemy” videos showing “us” as a deadly, unified, testosterone+++ strike-force gunning down bad guys like a video game. It’s a popularized image, thanks to all of our communications system, feeding an already hopped-up imagination dreaming of sexualized vengeance and destruction. HE-MANS getting rid of EVILDOERS. Armed super-controllers/patrollers.

The image is not of public servants or protectors. Nuff said.

  12. masonblue says:

note- CS here. If you go to the Washington Post link, it appears that Springdale PD scrubbed their recruitment off of YouTube. The note is “This video doesn’t exist.”

Oops! Cat got out of the bag….grass camo?
