Police suppressed coroner’s report criticizing police investigation in Kendrick Johnson death

Friday, November 8, 2013

Good afternoon:

Victor Blackwell of CNN reported late last night that the original Coroner’s report regarding Kendrick Johnson’s death was extremely critical of the police investigation. In his January 22nd report, Lowndes County Coroner Bill Watson wrote:

“I was not notifedi n (sic) this death until 15:45 hours. The investigative climate was very poor to worse when I arrived on the scene. The body had been noticably (sic) moved. The scene had been compromised and there was no cooperation from law enforcement at the scene. Furthermore the integrity of the evidence bag was compromised on January 13, 2013 by opening the sealed bag and exhibiting the dead body to his father.”

“I do not approve of the manner this case was handled. Not only was the scene compromised, the body was moved. The integrrety (sic) was breached by opening a sealed body bag, information necessary for my lawful investigation was withheld.”

Blackwell received a copy of this report recently from the coroner’s office in response to a public records request.

In May he was provided with a different version of this report by the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office. The critical language in the original was omitted and the report was not signed or dated.

Neither the sheriff nor the coroner will answer questions about the two reports.

One concern I have (and I apologize if it has been covered) is, how could he be rolled up in a mat that tightly?

    • Trained Observer says:

And to think (to quote this murdering jerk) he “was a bishop and tithed” and everything, just like you know who.

    • Malisha says:

MacNeill reminds me a bit of Joaquin Rams in Virginia (google “Prince Rams” and/or “Hera McLeod”). These guys can go around killing folks and seem to evade suspicion until the critical mass of a handful of dead relatives is reached.

the official story from georgia continues to stink. i’m glad that further action is being taken by the family, their lawyers, the feds and the press. i can only hope that answers can be found.

  3. The investigators here in Georgia are three layers of ish deep. Meaning that if you can go beyond local, state, and LOCAL FED GOVT authorities, you’ve reached the primary nugget of investigation. I’m doing all I can here, but understand that they’ll snatch my credentials at the drop of a hat if they think I’m snooping. (tee, hee)

What about the guy on the video at night?

Page 2 of this article says that several people witnessed a TA let in a unknown male around 7pm to the gym during their practice. They say he walked out and past the main office, never to be seen again.

If the TA knew him or if he went past any of the 30+ cameras that were working we might have a lead. Was he a student retrieving a shoe after school hours or was he there to case the joint? Possibly leave a door ajar or smear vaseline on a camera lens or point said camera into another position?

  6. It would be nice if the investigators would explain why Kendrick Johnson fingernails were removed when his parents stated Kendrick always wore his fingernails a bit longer. Doubt if they tested them for DNA.. but more so to hide the DNA of his attacker is what I think. This young man defended himself against his attacker or attackers.

It will be quite interesting listening to the Doctor Maryanne Gaffney-Kraft cover the new findings of Doctor Anderson.

    • Lyn says:

Georgia Bureau of Investigation stands by the autopsy done by a GBI Doctor. Coroner Watson is not a Doctor. He also commented that the disposed decomposing organs had no bearing on the investigation as GBI took slides of the organs and provided them to Anderson. A fresh look at an investigation is always welcome. Like to see a third autopsy. Do basketball players usually wear their nails longer? done by

      • It’s standard operating procedure to clip fingernails at an autopsy to collect and preserve any trace or biological evidence that may be present. For example, Dr. Bao did that during Trayvon Martin’s autopsy and no foreign DNA was detected effectively ruling out the possibility that Trayvon hit GZ multiple times causing a bleeding injury.

      • EveryoneIsEntitledToTheirOpinion says:

Only a typo.. Doctor I use the IPad.

      • EveryoneIsEntitledToTheirOpinion says:

I’m sure you make typos also…the basis of my statement is it will be interesting hearing everyone battle with their words. What a circus this will be and I clearly do not have faith in the us attorney. On iPad once again…

  8. Malisha says:

NO EXCUSES, the US Attorney and the FBI must investigate this cover-up. AND they are not to get away with, “None of the students or teachers or law enforcement are racists; we asked all of them and they all said no.”

    • crazy1946 says:

Malisha, I agree, it is essential that a fair and impartial investigation into Kendrick’s death be conducted! However, I am not sure Mr. Moore is the right person to head up this investigation, he is from an area close by, and because I have been able to find very little information about either he or his prior case work, I am left to wonder if he is the right person to instill confidence in his fairness and abilities to resolve this case. I would have preferred that a special prosecutor had been appointed that had absolutely no ties to the area, this would have dispelled any doubt about the integrity of the investigation…

If you want a real eye opener about Sheriff Prine, go back and read some of the comments that were made during his election to that position in 2008 and re-election in 2012… He was alleged to have ties to some of the white supremacy groups in the Valdosta area. Were the accusation true? I don’t know, but some of the events that have occurred during this investigation could lead one to wonder….

  9. crazy1946 says:

From the article linked by our Professor:

“Elliott, the attorney for Lowndes County Sheriff Chris Prine, said that his client has confirmed the video had not been altered or edited by anyone within the sheriff’s office. An attorney for the school likewise said that what was provided to the sheriff’s office was the raw feed with no edits.”

Read that carefully, he did not say that the video was not altered, only that no one in the sheriffs office did it… Perhaps he needs to be asked who they sent the video to for the alterations and edits to be made…. Powerful people have the money to buy justice or worse yet “inoculate themselves from justice”!!!

Reblogged this on KENDRICK JOHNSON: The Boy Who Never Came Home and commented:
In the midst of constantly updated information regarding Kendrick Johnson’s death and the botched investigation which deductive reasoning and common sense naturally lead to signs of both foul play and a cover-up, many details are getting lost in the flush. For those who are perhaps just beginning to follow the case, the death occurred sometime after 1:09 p.m. January 10, 2013, and some hours prior to the body of Johnson being found in the rolled gym mat of Lowndes High School’s “Old Gym.”

Since the coroner, Bill Watson, was called roughly 6 hours after the body was found approximately 9:30 a.m. on Friday January 11, understandably his elected position was disrespected by the local – and state – authorities (though this was the local responsibility to make the call; not sure whether or not the on-scene GBI had any finger-wagging sway once they arrived that morning sometime after 10 a.m. and 11 a.m and didn’t see the coroner present).

Of note is the fact that Watson didn’t come forward – or perhaps wasn’t ever asked – until April when he agreed to an on-camera interview with CNN chastising the sheriff’s office for compromising his crime scene.

Also of note is the fact that the investigation the sheriff’s office claimed to have been carrying out, according to the recently available documents online (with student’s names redacted), seemed only to begin in May. More on that when I can elaborate.

If the truth ever comes out, there will be a really big fish in the fry pan… To think that this elected sheriff would work so hard to cover up the actions of some little non descript individual is absurd, no it was/is someone who holds great power in the community/state…. Find the link and you find the killer. Hint, who is high enough placed in society, politics and works within the school system as well, and also has children in the school? Solve that mystery and you might just figure out who had motive, who had the power, and who is in control…

  12. kllypyn says:

isn’t tampering with a corioners report a crime?

  13. Two sides to a story says:

That the coroner’s report was suppressed definitely tells us there’s something afoot. Why would they be scared of some general criticism if there wasn’t a crime to hide?

  14. Girlp says:

Sounding more and more like a coverup…may have come from the top(Police Chief)

    • Lyn says:

Georgia Bureau of Investigation at the State level is the top in this tragedy. The Sheriff called GBI into the investigation immediately, The autopsy was done by a GBI doctor.
