19-year-old Renisha McBride seeks help and dies from a shotgun blast to her face

Friday, November 8, 2013

Good morning:

19-year-old Renisha McBride will be buried today. A homeowner in Dearborn Heights bordering Detroit shot her in the face with a 12-gauge shotgun at 3:40 am Saturday as she stood on his front porch.

USA Today reports:

Two versions of what happened in the early morning hours of Saturday have unfolded.

One is from the homeowner, who told investigators he accidentally discharged his .12-gauge shotgun when he believed the woman was breaking into his house in the middle of the night.

The other is from relatives of the African-American woman from Detroit, who said they believe she was racially profiled after she went up to the house on Outer Drive seeking help after she was involved in an auto accident.

No charges have been filed against the homeowner.

According to police, Renisha McBride was involved in an accident with a parked car. Her family says the accident was four blocks from the house where she was killed.

The shooter told police that he thought the person was attempting to break into his house and fired the gun accidentally without actually seeing the person before he fired the shot.

The Dearborn Heights Police Department is continuing to investigate the case.

Looks to me like she was knocked unconscious in the accident and disoriented when she regained consciousness. She went looking for help and was shot in the face.

The accidental discharge claim appears to have been fabricated.

Another white man gets away with murder. It is open season on us because too many white people are such cowards who shoot first & ask questions later.

    Evil in America is winning.

    • Malisha says:

They don’t even “ask questions later.” They say “here’s the answer” later. They act like the question should NOT be asked.

I got into it with an a55hole on the Turley thread who defended Fogen’s right to kill Trayvon Martin by saying that when a punk invaded HIS neighborhood he had a right to “shoot first and ask questions later.”

They don’t even ask the question. Because the only question is: How come you think you have a right to keep living when I would like to kill you?

It’s shocking that “parents of shooting victim want killer in jail” is a news HEADLINE. It’s like “dog bites man”. It’s surreal.

Like beside the fact the killer should be in jail, the headline should read “teen’s killer not arrested”, not some middle-of-the-road he-said/she-said crap.

this is just heartbreaking to me. after reading various articles about this over the last few days in which all too many commenters grasp for reasons to blame the victim, it’s nice to be right here.

fred, i hope we keep our eye on this case.

i got some grief for commenting on this at the huffpost by stating “and people ask why trayvon martin did not simply knock on a stranger’s door”. sad, sad world.

Jesus Christ! I guess blacks will eventually have to wear a sign on them that says, “I’m unarmed and not a thug or burglar or criminal. I’m just an innocent kid.

Maybe, all of us black people should secede from America and request that they give us our own state. I’m just saying! This is getting to be a little too much. And the man that shot her will not be punished because it appears that America justice system does not include justice for black people. Black people learned that with the Trayvon Martin case. Well, not exactly, we’ve always known it because it is embedded so deep in the fabric of this country. Even people in other countries recognize it and know that it’s the American way.

She probably was probably armed with Skittles, Arizona Iced Tea, and a sidewalk.

    Shoot first, ask questions later.

  7. Marilyn says:

Her name is Renisha, Mcbride, not Renata, in case anyone wants to google this. It’s just beginning to unfold, and there appears to be a LOT of unfolding to do. Tzar, I agree, these cases are becoming ridiculously numerous and horribly egregious. As Michael Moore says: “Guns don’t shoot people, Americans shoot people.”

  8. Tzar says:

I think this case, which by the way is not unique-within the last 24 months, a young man was shot as his car pulled out of someone’s driveway which he had erroneously pulled into, A salesman was shot as he left a potential client’s driveway, another young man leaving the scene of his crashed car was shot by the police as he approached them to ask for help and most recently a young man who was running home nude from the beach after his clothes were stolen in a prank, was zimmerman’d by an inquiring good Samaritan-shows us the fatal in the nature of the gun, it kills faster than the operator can think.

  9. Dave says:

OK, so this 19 year old girl/woman crashes her car somewhere around closing time and two hours later (3:40 AM) appears on a stranger’s porch, presumably waking him from a sound sleep….

Folks, we’re missing a LOT of the story. Let’s wait for more facts to surface before we draw conclusions.

    • bettykath says:

Yep, she was a burglar who woke a man from a sound sleep by banging on his door. And he was too chicken-sxxt to open his door or look through his window or call 911. Of course, these days, calling 911 could mean you’re inviting the cops to kill you.

    OT http://gawker.com/dad-calls-cops-on-son-to-teach-him-a-lesson-cops-shoot-1460159897

Comments indicate that the kid ran a red light, backed over the hood of the police car with the trailer (lawn care company), drove onto the grassy quad at the college, etc. But all this was AFTER the cops gave chase. There is radio recording of an officer, at least twice, recommending they back off – call was made by Dad so they knew who the driver was and where he lived. How much better for the kid to live long enough to hear the lesson from the cops at home, but that wouldn’t feed the ego of the cop, would it? They escalated the situation and then claim a justified shooting b/c the kid didn’t obey an order.

    Another comment:

“As a Black Man, I have to say…Holy Shit!!!! It happens to white people too?!?!?!?!?

    “This is officially an epidemic.”

    • MDH says:

The cop stated that he had to shoot because the fact that this kid did not turn the engine off on command was a threat to public safety.

Good God!!!, like firing six shots, of which four missed, did not threaten public safety or the fact that the kid was basically executed for not promptly responding to a command.

Way too many guns in this country and not nearly enough common sense. And I hear way, way too many stories like this.

    • roderick2012 says:

Two sides to a story says: Way too many guns in this country and not nearly enough common sense.

That sums up the past fifty years in this country.

  12. Girlp says:

Not everyone should have a gun, some people react before they know if they are in danger or not, he assumed because she is AA that he was in danger.

  13. bettykath says:

It’s really tough to be AA in this country. There are all kinds of excuses being used to kill unarmed Blacks. Disgusting. To me it sounds like manslaughter at least.

    • Malisha says:

I agree. After all, if someone knocked on or rang his doorbell, he could have retreated, held onto his precious gun, and dialed 911 for help. He didn’t have to OPEN the door and fire! My son was involved in an accident once and he was found wandering around in the middle of the street, disoriented. He’s white. Fortunately two people were driving by, and the wife was a nurse, and they stopped, and they called 911 and an ambulance came to get him. He has no recollection of this event and had no idea he was walking around in a dazed condition. We live in a society where apparently no African American can expect any kind of decency or help from anyone; they risk being murdered at every moment in the midst of any activity. This is not acceptable as a society. We are not a democracy if this is how we are behaving. And Fogen was not an isolated incident; he was just a public event. For every one we hear about there are a hundred we never hear about and they probably go down as “crime statistics” showing that African Americans were up to no good, were breaking into houses, were engaged in robberies and burglaries and assaults. The dead cannot defend themselves. Shame on us SHAME!
